Plan your project

A Cambridge fit-out: settle the scope before the opening date.

For a retail, office, showroom or service space, begin with the current and proposed use of the premises. A cosmetic refresh and a change in how a building is used are different planning questions. Bring the unit address, existing drawings if available, landlord requirements and a description of staff and customer activities to the consultation.

Use the City’s property-specific starting point

The City of Cambridge building-permit page links to its Application Navigator, which asks about the project and compiles property-specific information. The City reviews plans against the Building Code, zoning and other applicable law. Use that process to clarify the approvals for the actual space rather than relying on a generic fit-out checklist.

Define who is responsible for each part

Set out landlord work, tenant work and contractor work separately. Identify demolition, electrical and data needs, plumbing, accessible routes, washrooms, mechanical work, fire-protection coordination and finish selections for review by the appropriate professionals. Not every item applies to every unit.

Plan for interruptions and handover

If the business will operate during construction, agree on work zones, deliveries, noise, dust separation and access before promising a phased schedule. Include inspection dependencies and final documentation in the opening plan.

Our ZAutoCare fit-out photographs show a bare commercial shell, showroom, workshop bays and client lounge in Waterloo Region. They illustrate our commercial work; we do not present that project as a Cambridge case study.

I recently had my washroom renovated by Optimal Renovations and I couldn’t be happier with the results. The quality of work was excellent from start to finish. Vahil and his team were professional, detail oriented, and always willing to give great ideas when it came to colours and design choices. They made the whole process smooth and stress free, and the final result turned out even better than I imagined.

Thank you again to Vahil and the team at Optimal Renovations for the amazing work. Highly recommend!
