Decide the layout before ordering the finishes

For a similar renovation, mark the tub, shower entrance, vanity drawers and door swing on a measured plan. A fixture that fits on paper can still make the room awkward to use. Compare retaining service locations with moving them, and ask for each option to be priced separately.

Put preparation into the quote

Ask the proposal to identify demolition, floor and wall preparation, waterproofing, ventilation, tile, glass and fixture installation. Describe how concealed damage will be documented and approved if it is found. A finished project photo does not establish the condition behind the walls in your home.

If this is your only bathroom, agree on access and temporary arrangements before demolition. Your schedule should account for inspections, preparation and material lead times rather than promise a fixed number of days for every room.
